Driving straight from Christchurch to Arthur&#39;s Pass takes around 2 hrs. However, your guide will take the scenic route with great stops along the way, so the journey will take longer &ndash; but it&#39;s all just part of this incredible experience.&nbsp;

The road through the Southern Alps is a beautiful example of extreme engineering&nbsp;involving viaducts, bridges, rock shelters and waterfalls redirected into&nbsp;chutes. Arthur&#39;s Pass National Park landscape is one of two halves. On the&nbsp;eastern side, you&#39;ll see wide, shingle-filled riverbeds and vast beech forests,&nbsp;and on the western side,&nbsp;you venture through dense rainforests&nbsp;alongside deeply gorged rivers.

Depart the Garden City with your friendly&nbsp;and knowledgeable driver showcasing some of the city&#39;s top highlights as you make your way north.

Pass through the stunning countryside&nbsp;full of lush green farmlands; depending on when you come, you might even see&nbsp;beautiful snowy scenes outside your window. Arrive in Sheffield at the world-famous pie&nbsp;shop for a wonderful morning tea (not included) and the chance to stretch your legs before getting back on&nbsp;the road.

Take time to explore and check out the rocks of&nbsp;Castle Hill. These weathered limestone rocks sit proudly from the tussocky&nbsp;hills. This area is called a karst landscape, and these ancient rocks are sculpted,&nbsp;spectacular, and irresistibly photogenic. So, make sure you have your camera&nbsp;ready, as you will be wanting to take many stunning photos.

Just down the road is Cave&nbsp;Stream Scenic Reserve, where there are two walks to the cave&#39;s opening. The&nbsp;track to the upstream entrance goes north, through a limestone landscape of&nbsp;solution holes, rillenkarren (water-grooved rocks) and sculptured rock&nbsp;formations. The other path leads to the edge of a terrace overlooking the&nbsp;outflow entrance of the cave. Make sure you have your camera ready to take photos&nbsp;and check out the limestone formations nearby, which were the setting for the filming&nbsp;of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe!

Depart Cave Stream and head to your final destination of the day &ndash; Arthur&#39;s Pass.&nbsp;On the way, you will be able to see the beautiful backdrop of the&nbsp;majestic Southern Alps up close.

&nbsp;

On arrival in the village, you can explore and check some of the local shops and have lunch. You might&nbsp;even see a Kea in the town. After lunch, head to the outlook, overlooking&nbsp;the Otira basin and see if you can spot any Keas &ndash; they love to say hi and see&nbsp;what they can get from the visitors.

&nbsp;

As the day ends, you&#39;ll head back to the Garden City after a wonderful day out.
