Frequently Asked Questions
Where does this tour end?
Where does this tour end?
On the final day, we take the world famous Tranz Alpine Express Train from Greymouth to Christchurch. This train journey is rated one of the top 10 train journeys in the world as the scenery is simply spectacular! This means the tour ends at Christchurch Railway Station at 6:30pm.
There are shuttle buses that take you into the city centre for around $5 and for all of you staying at Haka Lodge after your tour, a group taxi will cost just a few dollars each. There is a busy taxi stand directly outside the train station.
A high number of people stay at Haka Lodge the night the tour ends but if you are needing to depart immediately, we suggest booking flights for anytime later than 9pm.

How much should I budget per day for food?
How much should I budget per day for food?
Your guide will supply a continental breakfast each morning of your tour. This will consist of cereal, toast, tea, coffee and juice. And they take any special requests also.
Lunches and dinners are at your own expense. The guides know the best places in each town and city depending on your budget and what you are after, and they will point these out on the way into each location.
Some nights the tour group may choose to cook a meal together. You will head to a supermarket to get everything and then cook as a group at the hostel. Whoever joins in splits the cost, and it usually works out to be about $10 NZD per person. It's a fun, social and cheap dinner.
Likewise, the tour group and guide often head out to a local pub for a beer and a meal. Meals can range from $15 upwards. In summer, it’s not uncommon to have a BBQ washed down with a few drinks.
Do you cater for vegans/vegetarians?
Do you cater for vegans/vegetarians?
Yes – all cafes and restaurants in New Zealand offer these options. If you can’t see any on the menu, just ask, as most places will happily prepare something for you.
